Helping Ospreys return to Devon
About Devon Osprey Partnership CIC
Osprey Nesting Sites
We are installing artificial nest platforms to increase the pace of natural recolonisation. Nests are installed in prominent trees or on telegraph poles placed in suitable locations. The most suitable areas are the estuaries of south Devon which see high Osprey traffic particularly in the Autumn.

Ospreys return to the UK in their 2nd year and then look for territories in areas of Osprey activity - so the idea is that these nests offer them a ready made territory to 'take over'.
This method has worked in many areas within the UK (Scotland, Wales, England at Rutland Water and Poole Harbour) as well as other areas of Europe, the USA and Australia.

Fundraising
We rely on donations and private funding to support our work, so all donations are very welcome. Most nests have been paid for by the landowner or through local collaborations, however a high proportion of the costs involved are met by the volunteer Raptor Study Group.

Unfortunately at this time we have been unable to gain support from any of the larger conservation bodies, so have to fund each location as and how we can. We are most grateful to the generous support of the landowners, tenant farmers and staff of the sites already selected.

About Us
Devon Osprey Partnership is a dedicated volunteer project, led by Seb Loram, an independent raptor worker and licensed bird ringer based in south Devon.
The aim is to encourage Ospreys to return to Devon as breeding birds after a 200-year absence. Our mission is to increase the pace of natural recolonisation through artificial nests located in suitable habitat providing a safe environment for Ospreys to flourish, and our website serves as a platform to showcase our work, provide essential information, and offer opportunities to support our cause.

The project involves collaborations with some fantastic people and organisations including Jason Fathers of Wildlife Windows, who pioneered the Poole Harbour Osprey translocation project with Forestry England, Birds of Poole Harbour and The Roy Dennis Wildlife Foundation.
Clinton Devon Estates, Ambios & The Sharpham Trust, Dave & Angus of Regenr8 and our friends in Cornwall at Kernow Conservation.
